Vintage Pigeon Forge Tennessee Pitcher, 5 inches high and 5½ inches at the widest point including the handle. This vase was purchased in the 1950s. No chips, cracks, crazing or repairs.
We purchased our Pigeon Forge Pottery between 1957-1958. Pigeon Forge Pottery was founded in 1947 by Douglas Ferguson in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee during revival movement in art generally (maybe Woody Guthrie) and in the Appalachians in particular. The pottery closed its doors in 2000. Each piece was hand-crafted either on the potter's wheel or hand-decorated free-hand with potter's slip. We were privileged in those days to walk through where the pottery was made. Pigeon Forge Pottery combines extremely high quality with period artistry. It broke new ground with exquisite textures of its fine clay and the richness of its multi-colored glazes.
